Name that show: Truckin' > Nobody's Fault Jam > Mind Left Body Jam > Wharf Rat |
...at least I'm pretty sure that's what's going on. The transition from MLB right into Wharf Rat sounds so beautiful and natural that I wonder why it didn't happen more often. LiA?

We have a winner! You know that for a fact, Cliff? None of the sources I could find made any mention of the MLB jam that night, including LiA's masterful reviews of thematic jams. You just walking around with all this knowledge filed away in your mind?

Yes Lou, it is a fact. And one well worth listening to the bonus disc from Road Trips II/3 if anyone wants to hear this terrific combination of thematic jamming.
As far as my knowledge, or lack thereof: I'm afraid that the subject matter of the contents inside of my head is limited to the Grateful Dead and tuna fish...

Re: Name that show: Truckin' > Nobody's Fault Jam > Mind Left Body Jam > Wharf Rat |
If i remember correctly, don't they even start to wander into some Caution themes during that jam, if only for a minute or so? Regardless it is a great listen.
btw, i was able to get out of the lab for a bit and give the Pow Wow RT another listen. I broke it up into the two sessions so i didn't have to hear the back to back Lovelights and I decided that the first show (Disc 1) still sounds a bit sloppy to me. H2H is a mess and even during the Dark Star, Jerry sounds like he is forcing things that aren't there. Vocally it is also sloppy. However the second show was much better. My only real complaint was the annoying guy from Brooklyn who is doing the PA stuff at the beginning. Did we really need that? Then again it did remind me of life in NYC's most southern borough.

An oversight on my part. See, usually I never remember to fix gaps like these unless someone mentions them!
There's another MLB>Wharf Rat transition on 9/14/74.

I'd guess it's just a joke, like Spinach Jam on DP6 (10/14/83). Sometimes you can hear the band making bad puns on song names when they're talking about what to play.

agreed. Obama has been pretty disappointing in his crowd-pleasing views, but relatively speaking, anyone looks great compared to Former President Shit-For-Brains!

Into the void... |
Let's not forget the best my home state has to offer: Senator John Kyl and his remark about 90% of Planned Parenthood's activities being abortions (which, in reality is closer to 3%). Stephen Colbert remarked perfectly:
When the actual figure turned out to be 3%, his office released a statement clarifying that Kyl's figure was "not intended to be a factual statement."
Colbert, tweeting as @StephenAtHome, began posting some not-so-factual statements about Kyl, beginning with
"Jon Kyl is one of Gaddafi's sexy female ninja guards #NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement."
Since then, he's launched more than 30 such broadsides, all bearing that exculpatory hashtag, including:
Jon Kyl is an accomplished nude hula dancer. He is not welcome in Hawaii.
For the past 10 years, Jon Kyl has been two children in a very convincing Jon Kyl suit.
Jon Kyl cheated on Sandra Bullock.
Once a year, Jon Kyl retreats to the Arizona desert and deposits 2 million egg sacs under the sand.
Citing religious reasons, Jon Kyl refuses to utter the number 8.
Jon Kyl once ate a badger he hit with his car.
Carly Simon wrote that song about Jon Kyl.
Legally, Jon Kyl cannot be within 100 yards of Helen Mirren.
Jon Kyl has a shrine to Scooter from the Muppet Show.
Jon Kyl developed his own line of hair care products just so he could test them on bunnies.
Jon Kyl was sent from the future to kill Sarah Conner.
Face it, both sides of the aisle are only concerned with playing to their base in order to win the next election. I personally like the recent idea of forcing all potential voters to pass a basic government test in order to vote. Hell, we make folks take a driving test before giving them a license, why not do the same with voting?

I have to admit I'm leaning towards not voting myself - will there be anyone running who isn't a major disappointment or just a vile idiot?

Re: Into the void... |
Hey, those are enough to make me want to do twitter. (Not that I actually would. It involves technology.)
My solution to deadlock: just slice up districts like a big sheet cake. No more partisan jerrymandering. "What?!? To get elected I'd actually have to deal with lots of different people and not just My Favorite Flavor? But but but ... then it wouldn't just be about ranting and hating on the other side ... whatever would I do?!?"
OK, off the soap box now.

Re: Name that show: Truckin' > Nobody's Fault Jam > Mind Left Body Jam > Wharf Rat |
i've heard plenty of stirring oratory - i'd like to see some more backbone and concrete actions. i know he has a lot of accomplishments to point to but it seems that in most negotiations on the major issues that even when he had the majority he ends up ceding to the minority's starting position in the name of "bipartisanship".
